Text Box: The talented and dedicated program specialists at Camp Fire USA Central Rockies Council focus their expertise in building caring, confident youth and future leaders in three areas: outdoor experiences, service learning and the arts. Most of our work is facilitates in three areas: schools, summer camps and community club environments exemplified through our partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Colorado. At this time, our focus is children of elementary and middle-school age. Our goals and objectives are rooted in what our founders, Charlotte and Luther Gulick desired almost a century ago for our nation’s underserved girls who sparked what has become Camp Fire USA: To provide opportunities and experiences that show the value of honest, challenging and fulfilling work; to show the value of healthy choices concerning who we associate with and what we put into our minds and bodies; to show the value of love and respect for self, others and community. At Central Rockies Council, we're trying to provide a foundation for those goals and objectives through programs in outdoor experiences, service learning and the arts. We're trying to connect with children’s mind, body and spirit. The connection to the mind comes through their creativity expressed in our arts programs. What the mind can see, it can achieve, whether it's a drawing or a new direction in life. The connection to the body comes through our outdoor experiences. There is something magical that happens inside each of us when we take the time to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life and connect with nature. The connection to our spirit comes through our service learning projects. There is also something magical that happens inside of us when we reach out and serve others. It reminds us, that it really is true, it is better to give than receive. Ralph Waldo Emerson, the great philosopher of the 1800's was right when he said long ago, "It's one of the most beautiful compensations in life, no person can sincerely try and help another without helping themselves, serve and thou shall be served."
